Winter

The first day of our ending

Was the first day of winter

Uncoincidentally

Your words dripped off your tongue

Too cold for my heart, they froze

By the time they reached my ears

Icicles that held the sharpest truths

Frigid wind that slapped my face

As if your voice did not already

It tucked my hair behind my ear

Since you would no longer do it

And then the snow fell, perfectly

Timed, a pretty white disguise

For the bitterness beneath it
