Kissing Strangers

These eyes could never see me

As clearly as you did, but they’re

The color of the sky I stared up

At when I wondered what failed.

Strangers always come and go,

Names unknown and unasked,

But they at least stay for a little.

I’ll just pretend I hear your voice

Every time they whisper me lies,

Pretend I’m with you as I accept

Kisses from lips that could never

Speak as beautifully as you did.

But at least they still speak at all.
